L’arte dell’embroideria religiosa in Spagna sviluppa uno dei suoi capitoli più interessanti durante le prime decadi del XX secolo, grazie ai cambiamenti avvenuti tra i nuovi processi industriali e la tradizione vernacolare, così profondamente radicata in un paese lontano dalla realtà europea. In quegli anni, sotto il regno di Alfonso XIII, i legami tra la famiglia reale, altre autorità civili e religiose, e le immagini devozionali più popolari in Spagna si manifestarono attraverso la consegna di oggetti sontuari, dai quali l’embroideria emerse come elemento principale, accanto a importanti figure che combinarono la ricca cultura visiva spagnola dell’Era Moderna con nuove formule tecniche ed estetiche.
The art of religious embroidery in Spain develops one of its most interesting chapters during the first decades of the 20th century due to the changes occurred then between the new industrial processes and the vernacular tradition, so deeply rooted in a country far from the European reality. During those years, under the rule of Alfonso XIII, the links between the royal family, other civil and religious authorities, and the most popular devotional images in Spain were manifested through the delivery of sumptuary objects, from which embroidery emerged as the main element, alongside important characters who combined Spanish rich visual culture from the Modern Age with new technical and aesthetic formulas.
