Persona viene definita nella classicità greca e latina l’io del genere umano, maschera di un volto che riesce a essere protagonista della propria storia, ma che, rispetto al destino dell’esito ultimo, mostra e rivela, nella medesima misura in cui, tragicamente, mimetizza e vela. Svanito nella morte dell’io vivente il volto di carne, per il mondo pagano, della nostra esistenza rimane soltanto un’effige scolpita in una statua di marmo o fusa nel bronzo con il nome inciso alla base, unico e funereo elemento di una rimembranza alimentata dal processo di divinizzazione propria del mito.
In Greek and Latin classicism, the term *persona* defines the self of humanity, a mask of a face that manages to become the protagonist of its own story, yet in relation to the ultimate outcome of fate, it shows and reveals as much as it, tragically, mimics and veils. Once the living self dies and the fleshly face fades, for the pagan world, only an effigy of our existence remains, sculpted in marble or cast in bronze with a name engraved at the base— the sole, funerary element of a remembrance fueled by the process of mythic divinization.
