L’articolo analizza le principali caratteristiche del Paliotto della Puridad, conservato nel Museo delle Belle Arti di Valencia. Inizialmente, viene descritto il contenuto delle iscrizioni presenti sul paliotto. Successivamente, vengono dettagliate le caratteristiche visive fondamentali dell’opera. L’integrazione di questi due aspetti costruisce un messaggio catechetico incentrato sul sacramento dell’Eucaristia e sulla sua profonda connessione con la Vergine Maria, che portò il Figlio di Dio nel suo corpo. Infine, l’articolo confronta ciascuna immagine iconografica del paliotto con sezioni della Vida de Jesucrist di Francesc Eiximenis, un’opera letteraria contemporanea al paliotto. Questo confronto mira a esplorare come gli elementi visivi e testuali riflettano e rafforzino i messaggi tematici e teologici dell’epoca.
The article analyzes the main features of the Altarpiece of La Puridad housed in the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia. Initially, it describes the content of the inscriptions present on the altarpiece. Subsequently, it details the key visual characteristics of the piece. The integration of these two aspects constructs a catechetical message focusing on the sacrament of the Eucharist and its profound connection with the Virgin Mary, who bore the Son of God within her own body. Finally, the article compares each iconographic image from the altarpiece to sections of Francesc Eiximenis’ Vida de Jesucrist, a literary work contemporary to the altarpiece. This comparison aims to explore how the visual and textual elements reflect and reinforce the thematic and theological messages of the period.
