Il saggio propone l’identificazione di una tela inedita, datata 1788 e firmata da Angelica Kaufmann, conservata nel Castello Reale di Racconigi, con l’opera dedicata dall’artista al Padre Generale dei Teatini Gaetano Giusiana, menzionata nel manoscritto *Memoria delle piture*, pubblicato da Charles Knight nel 1998. La commissione per il dipinto è ricostruita come parte della rete di relazioni e interessi culturali del Padre piemontese a Roma, compresa la sua amicizia con Guglielmo Della Valle. Il dipinto divenne un modello per altre opere sacre prodotte dall’artista negli ultimi decenni della sua carriera.
The essay advances the identification of a previously unpublished canvas, dated 1788 and signed by Angelica Kaufmann, preserved at the Royal Castle of Racconigi, with the work dedicated by the artist to the Father General of the Theatins Gaetano Giusiana, and mentioned in the manuscript Memoria delle piture, published by Charles Knight in 1998. The commission for the painting is reconstructed as part of the Piedmont-born Father’s network of relationships and cultural interests in Rome, including his friendship with Guglielmo Della Valle. The painting became a model for other sacred works produced by the artist in the last decades of her career.
