Sommario

Summary

I must confess that my cathedral is very dear to me. Its only flaw is that it is not mine; indeed, as is well known, the Duomo does not belong to the diocesan Church but to the City, to the people of Milan, who manage, adapt, and maintain it through the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo. I live near this cathedral, and I am always moved by the grandeur, beauty, and allure it offers: by day, by night, in the sun, in the rain, during the different seasons. When I enter a cathedral—and especially when I enter the Duomo—it seems to me that the stones speak, that the spaces inspire, that the images evoke emotions, tell stories, and communicate thoughts. The symbols present in the celebrations convey grace and doctrine, history and hope. The centuries leave their unmistakable marks.
